There are many things that can be done to get on the path to healthy living, it’s just a matter of finding what works for you.
What works for one may not work for another, so my mission is to give you tools. Maybe you try them, maybe they work, maybe they don’t. I just want you to find something! Start working on you.
“Oxygen masks come in all different shapes and sizes. Here are four oxygen masks that I am investing in … will you consider investing in them too?”
Self care is the first thing that many of us put on the back burner. Why? I think if I had the answer to that, I’d be a millionaire, or at least on my way to becoming one. Why is taking care of me so difficult? I truly believe that if we don’t take care of ourselves first, we are not going to be able to care for anyone else. So starting today, right now, I’m putting on my oxygen mask first… before I try to help the people around me.
1. EAT. Good whole food nutrition. Your brain needs food, so feed it! If you are not eating the way you should be eating, you are doing a huge disservice to yourself and those around you! Don’t believe me? Try it.. prove me wrong!
2. MOVE. The best exercise is the one you will do. Find something fun and get to moving! Start playing with your kids. Take your dog, cat or fish for a walk around the block. Go rollerskating. Just start moving. 30 minutes of movement a day is an awesome stress reliever, and helps you clear your mind!
3. BREATHE. Actually breathe. Most Americans pant. Your lungs have the potential of processing so much more air than you currently are. Take a deep breath in … fill your belly (actually feel your belly press outward as the air enters your lungs). Inhale 2-3-4-5 hold it 2-3-4-5 exhale completely 2-3-4-5-6-7. Now, do it again. Feels good to be giving your body what you need doesn’t it!?
4. WRITE. Pick up one of those old fashioned things called an ink pen, and dig out that stuff… what’s it called again… you know, that stuff that you can write on… oh yeah – paper. Jot down 10 things right now that you are thankful for. By writing your gratitude list daily, you will not only start to feel better about where you are, and what you have, but you will see that your attitude will also change. When your attitude changes – your day gets better, and it’s easier to help others put their oxygen masks on too.
